It was a warm Sunday when three members of 'The Angels Running Club' ran The Standish Woodland Chase, a distance of over 10 miles and mainly off road. Rachel Labdon did very well to record a time 5 minutes faster than last year and a Pb for the course in I.34.07. Deborah Southgate was able to improve her time from 2 years before by over 4 minutes in 1.27.21. Helen Bown recorded 1.54.55 despite walking for a mile of the course as she helped out an injured runner.
It was a busy August for Southgate who was the only 'Angel' to take part in the County Championship 5km and for her effort was rewarded with a veteran 50 gold medal. The following week she took part in the 10km County Championship track race and won another gold medal. Southgate also ran on bank holiday Monday In the Arlingham 4.4 road race and once again finished first veteran 50 lady.

Two Angels ran in the Gloucester half marathon at the end of July. Liz Spiers veteran 35 completed the course as part of her training for the Bristol half marathon in September, recording 1.58.38. After a recent break from serious training Helen Bown veteran 50 was very pleased to complete the distance in 2.07.20.
The following Thursday two other Angels ran the seven mile 'Festival Seven' organised by Severn Athletic Club. It was a battle all the way for veteran 35 Rachel Labdon and veteran 50 Deborah Southgate. Southgate managed to pull away from her team mate and finished strongly in 55.26 with Labdon less than half a minute behind in 55.48.
Just a week later The Angels Running Club had nine members running in the Bugatti 10km near Cheltenham; as part of the road race series valuable points could be earnt. Deborah Southgate was first of the Angels running well over a minute faster than last year in 50.21 and gaining full points for the series in her age category. Liz Spiers finished only a few seconds behind in 50.30. Next home was Rachel Labdon in 53.35 followed by Helen Bown in 56.53. Dawn Hyde finished just outside the hour in 1.01.54, followed by Stephanie Fox in 1.05.09. Next was new member Jenny Vallely in her first 10km race and running extremely well on the tough course in 1.09.06. Eileen Dodwell veteran 60 ran a fantastic time of 1.10.07 scoring full points in her age category. The last to finish was Sandra Major in 1.21.40 who was also running her very first 10km.

The Pilot 4 mile last Thursday evening was entered by four members of the Angels Running Club. Helen Bown finished first in 33.32, followed by Dawn Hyde in a new personal best of 35.21. Next was Stephanie Fox who also ran a pb in 37.07. Naomi Smith in her first race after the London marathon finished in 38.40.
Last Sunday only two Angels opted to run 13.1 miles in the Tewkesbury half. Nicola Wong finished in 1.57.39 and Teresa Bennett recorded 2.15.55.
Eileen Dodwell was the star for 'The Angels' in the Berkeley 10km slashing her pb by over two minutes and scoring full points in the veteran 60 category of the road race series. She sprinted to the finish with Lily Hamer (veteran 55) and they were both very happy with their time of 1.2.08. Dawn Hyde (veteran 55) was pleased to finish in 55 minutes on a windy evening. Helen Bown and Deborah Southgate both ran faster times than at Blaisdon the previous week, in times of 52.40 and 47.25. Southgate was the first veteran 50 prizewinner and also scored full points in her category for the road race series.

At the weekend Angels Running Club were able to field two veteran lady teams for the annual road relays and Both teams were well rewarded for their efforts with silver medals for finishing 2nd vet 35 team and 2nd vet 45 team. Team members for the veteran 35 team were Liz Spiers, Kerry Evans -who recorded the club's fastest time of the day -and Nicola Wong. Joanne Carter v45 back after injury was the first runner for the veteran 45 team followed by v55 Lilly Hammer and v60 Eileen Dodwell.
The following day the popular Bath Half Marathon was held in glorious sunshine. Three runners from 'Angels' took part. Mary Meadows v35 clocked 2.03.20, Dawn Hyde v55 clocked 2.20.08 and Chris Ellis v55 [despite falling off a kerb early in the race and injuring her face and hip], finished the course in 2.39.12.
Three other 'Angels' also opted for the half marathon distance, taking part in the undulating Forest of Dean race. Deborah Southgate v50 was pleased to record a time several minutes quicker than last year in 1.49.37, Jo Walters v50 recorded 1.58.29 and Nicky Ryland v35 recorded 2.19.35.
The previous week Rachel Labdon v35 tackled the 20 mile distance for the first time and did well to complete the course in 3 hours and 9 minutes. Rachel also took part in the White Horse Five mile the week before, finishing in a time of 37.19. Helen Bown also took part in the five mile race and was pleased to pick up the prize for first veteran 50.
The Angels running Club will once again be helping to marshall The Race for Life event being held on June 21st at Hartbury. There will be a 5km and a 10km race this year . Anyone who would like help in preparation for this can contact the club via Edwina on 07747173429 . Training will begin on Tuesday 31st March at 6pm from the tennis centre at plock court.

The Angels Running Club were able to field teams for two recent local cross country events. For Severn Athletic Club's relays held on plock court, the four runners led off by Deborah Southgate [V50], followed by Rachel Labdon [V35], Helen Bown [V50] and Denise Evans [V45] were delighted to win a county gold medal for the first veteran 35 team. Taking part in The Gloucestershire County Championships from Tewkesbury school,over 7.39 kms were once again Southgate, Labdon and Bown with new recruit Kerry Evans the fourth scorer in her first cross country race. They finished fifth ladies team.
The first race in January for Nicola Wong [V40] of 'Angels' was the New Year's Day 5 Mile. She was pleased to record a time of 39.11 despite running a high weekly mileage in training for the Gloucester marathon at the end of the month.
A few days later eight 'Angels' braved the extreme cold weather to run the Gloucester 10 mile road race. For Louise Page and Caroline Parker in her first 10 mile, both in training for the London Marathon, it was an even pace all the way and they crossed the line together in 1.34.15. For Seventeen year old Naomi Smith who will be running in her first marathon in London on her 18th birthday it was also a new distance in 1.39. Times for the other runners were Deborah Southgate 1.23.35, Denise Evans 1.26.54, Jo Walters 1.27.33, Rachel Labdon 1.29.16 and Helen Bown1.29.29.

County Cross Country 2 mile Relay at Plock Court
Congratulations go to the Angels team who braved the biting temperatures and frozen course to come home with the fouth Ladies team prize and Gold medals for the County LV35! (Deborah I hope I have got this right!) Well done to the team who ran in the following order:

Nine members of The Angels Running Club took part in the Cirencester 10 km run on the private roads of Cirencester Park, bathed in September sunshine. All were pleased with their runs but Dawn Hyde veteran 55 did especially well to record a new personal best by more than 3 minutes in 56.53. Julie Hapeshi, veteran 45 managed to beat her time for the race by 5 minutes in 56.52. Nicky Wong finished first Angel in a time close to her personal best in just over 49 minutes. Next was Sharon Harris in 50.39; she did very well to complete her first track race recently at the Joe Horn 2 mile. Helen Bown in 51.13 was quickly followed by Mary Meadows in her very first 10 kilometre recording an excellent 52 minutes. Theresa Bennett and Naomi Smith both new members of the club finished in 58.00. Chris Ellis completed the team finishing in one hour.
Sarah Jones ran The Chippenham Half Marathon recently, with very little training and on a tough course her time of 2 hours 2 minutes was very good.
Rachel Labdon enjoyed the hilly and muddy Woodchester Park multi terrain in 1 hour 17 minutes.

Members of 'The Angels Running Club' have competed in various local races recently. In the 'fitness four' Steph Fox was pleased to improve her time by 1 minute 41 seconds to record 38.41. After a while out injured she is now on target with her training to compete in The Great North Run.
In the popular Bugatti 10 km Deborah Southgate recorded 51.43. She was followed by Jo Walters who was closing in on her team mate with a strong run in the second half of the race in 59.29. Next was Nicola wong in 54.11 and finally Helen Bown in 55.29.
Denise Evans was the only 'Angel' to run through the woods and hills in The Cranham Boundary Chase. She ran well to record 48.42.
In The Standish Woodland Chase the previous heavy rain left the woods very muddy but all the Angels taking part enjoyed the run. Denise Evans veteran 40 was in action again, in full training for her second marathon of the year and finishing first Angel in a strong run with a time of 1.24.56 . For Nicola Wong it was her first time on the course and she also had a good run to record 1.32.29. Next was Helen Bown ,veteran 50 in 1.34.09 and lastly Sharon Harris completed the team in 1.41.46. Angels finished third ladies team.
Five members of the club turned out for the 5 km County Championship race and two runners were rewarded with County medals. Rachel Labdon was 2nd veteran 35 in 22.58 and Nicola Wong was 3rd veteran 40 in 23.33. Times for the others were Denise Evans Vet 45, 24.49, Helen Bown Vet 50, 24.26 and Sharon Harris Vet 35, 24.47.
On the bank holiday weekend Denise Evans took part in The Pewsey Vale half marathon, an extremely challenging half. Despite this she still managed a good time of 1 hour 50 minutes.
Finally Rachel Labdon and Nicola Wong picked up prizes for 1st vet 35 and 1st vet 40 in the Arlingham 4.4 miles held on bank holiday Monday.
