Race report
The 17th Beacon 10 km organised by The Angels Running Club and held last Sunday was an exciting race at the front of the field with just a minute separating the first six men. Dennis Walmsley from Bourton Roadrunners and Lee Rankin from Stroud were in close contention until 7 kilometres when Walmsley pulled ahead with a strong finish to win the race by 33 seconds beating Rankin into second place. Third Man and veteran 40 runner Alistair Lockey also from Bourton was just 9 seconds behind. Bourton Road Runners also picked up the mens' team prize with Andy Chapple and Tony Goodwin third and fourth scorer.
In the ladies' race Kate Goodhead from Stroud AC. was over four minutes ahead of second placed runner Lisa Newing from Bristol and West AC. In third place was veteran 35 Lucy Walmsley another success for Bourton Roadrunners. Bourton Roadrunners won the ladies' team prize by just one point ahead of Stroud. The team comprised of Lucy Walmsley, under 20 Brittany Teague and her mother veteran 50 runner Pauline Teague.
Tony Christmas from Stroud AC was the oldest competitor in the race and won the prize for first veteran 75.
Angels' sole participant was Nicola Wong who with an official time of 49.02 recorded a new PB, showing regular racing and effort sessions have paid off.
